Lefaive, ON — On Monday, July 5, 2010, MP Pierre Lemieux announced that a strategic investment of $25,000 has been made by the Federal Government through the Prescott-Russell Community Development Corporation (PRCDC) in support of the Foire Gourmande Est-Ontario and Outaouais. “I’m happy to announce today that our federal government is investing once again in tourism Prescott-Russell tourism,” stated Mr. Lemieux. “This is an event that will greatly benefit our local farmers and producers.” PRCDC is a proactive community organization that provides federal funding with the goal of strengthening both the community’s entrepreneurs and the community’s economy as a whole. Funding events like the Foire Gourmande Est-Ontario et Outaouais are seen as key to fueling economic growth and ensuring long term sustainability for rural communities. “John Candie and his team at the PRCDC have been an integral part of helping businesses and communities across Prescott and Russell,” said Mr. Lemieux. The federal investment is aimed at helping the Prescott-Russell Economic Development and Tourism Office hire a coordinator that will assist with the organization of the Foire Gourmande Est-ontarien et Outaouais, which will be occurring simultaneously on both sides of the Ottawa River at the end of August. Furthermore, this project will enable local and regional farmers and producers in promoting their products to the public and will also bring together chefs from the region. Mr. Lemieux, who recently launched his “Support our Farmers: Buy Local!” campaign is delighted that federal funding will be devoted to promoting an event whose goal is to highlight locally grown dairy, meat, and produce. “ I am particularly excited that this event will provide a great opportunity to showcase our local products and provide increased visibility of our farmers and producers", said Mr. Lemieux. There will be no less than 30 kiosks of at the Foire Gourmande offering visitors a taste of our local products. There will also be cooking demonstrations given by renowned chefs of the region. Mr. Lemieux concluded, “Our Economic Action Plan is working. The money invested in events such as this are rebuilding our economy on strong footing. Our approach of making targeted investments where they really matter is improving the quality of life in our communities.”
