Pierre Lemieux Announces Funding to Support Important Community Projects

Hawkesbury, Ontario - On Monday, July 5, 2010, Pierre Lemieux, MP for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell and the Prescott-Russell Community Development Corporation (PRCDC) announced $47 500 in funding for three projects in the Prescott-Russell region. The funding comes from the Eastern Ontario Development program, which is supported by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).
“Our government continues to deliver on its commitment made in Canada’s Economic Action Plan to stimulate the economy and create opportunity and growth,” said Mr. Lemieux. “Through John Candie and his team at PRCDC , we are providing better community services, revitalizing critical municipal infrastructure and providing targeted support for businesses and industry sectors to ensure they grow and prosper.”
FedDev Ontario was created as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan to support economic and community development, innovation, and economic diversification, with contributions to communities, businesses and non-profit organizations in southern Ontario.
“It is important to stipulate that the funds announced today coming from our federal government will contribute to the economic growth of the communities of Prescott-Russell,” stated Mr. Candie, Executive Director of the PRCDC.
The funding recipients included:
City of Hawkesbury - $20,000 to be used to offset the cost of a new electronic community sign to be located at the corner of Higginson and Cartier in order to promote sporting events and the community activities of Hawkesbury.
Prescott-Russell Employment Service Center - $20,000 to develop a Marketing Strategy to help increase substantially the untapped niche markets that are the employers of our region and offer more marketing support and access to programs and services.
Prescott-Russell Victim Service Center - $7,500 to develop a solution for their management program to secure client accounts so that all information remains confidential. In addition, this project will be developed by a local business located in Prescott-Russell.
The Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario Community Futures (CF) Program, supports 37 Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDCs) - serving rural Eastern and Southern Ontario. CFDCs offer a wide variety of programs and services supporting community economic development and small business growth.
