Works Begin at St-Isidore Arena

Pierre took part in the official ground breaking marking the beginning of an
important upgrade project for the St-Isidore Arena. The $660,000
investment from the federal government will allow the municipality of La Nation
to build two wheelchair accessible locker rooms, to expand its
bowling alley and to add a meeting room on the second floor. A new elevator will
finally make the second floor accessible to people with limited mobility.

Pierre Warns Constituents Against Mail Scam Involving Fake Canadian Revenue Agency Letter

The letter claims that there is “insufficient information” for the individual’s tax return and that in order to receive any “refunds”, they will have to update their records.
The letter attaches a form specifically requesting the individual’s personal information in writing, via fax or email, including information on bank accounts and passport numbers. This letter is not from the CRA and people should not provide their personal information to the sender. ...continue |

On Friday, November 9, the MP for

US border is being reopened to Canadian cattle
Reacting to the announcement that the US border is
being reopened to
Canadian cattle born after March 1, 1999, Pierre Lemieux,
MP for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, said that he was delighted. “All
farmers should be happy about this. The work that our government has
done to make the animal food chain safer is bringing encouraging
results, and the reopening of the American border is a good

Pierre Disappointed l'Echo d'un Peuple is in its last season

I am very disappointed that l’Écho d’un peuple has announced that this year will be its last year. L’Écho d’un peuple is a tremendous production that reflects our francophone heritage both within Canada and within Ontario and I congratulate the thousands of volunteers and actors across our riding of Glengarry-Prescott-Russell that have supported this wonderful event throughout these five seasons.
I am proud that I had the opportunity to participate in l’Écho d’un peuple four times as an actor and that I was able to deliver over $325,000 in financial support over the past 2 years. Those who are involved in l’Écho d’un peuple know how hard I have worked to both personally support l’Écho d’un peuple and to deliver such significant financial funding.

Pierre has just returned from an 8 day visit to our Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan during this past week. He travelled there with the Defence Committee because of his important responsibilities as Chair of the Special Committee on the Canadian Mission in Afghanistan. Lemieux said, "It was an honour to meet with so many of our soldiers serving in Afghanistan and to witness firsthand the important work they are doing". Pierre Completes Visit of all GPR Municipal Councils

Pierre recently met with all nine municipal councils, as well as with the United Counties of Prescott-Russell, as part of a three-month tour. Throughout his meetings with the various municipalities, Pierre emphasized the importance of the federal Building Canada program, the Gas Tax Fund for municipalities, as well as the various tax cuts that were introduced by the Conservative government. Since taking office, the Conservative government has delivered over $200 billion in tax cuts to individuals and businesses.

Conservatives
make the gas tax fund for municipalities permanent to help
with their infrastructure needs
Pierre Lemieux, Member of Parliament for
Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, has worked hard to ensure that
the 2008 Federal Budget included making the Gas Tax Fund a
permanent measure. This Fund, which is a key way in which
the federal government transfers money directly to
municipalities for their infrastructure needs, will be worth
$2 billion in 2009-2010.

Government of Canada supports Wastewater upgrades
in
Hawkesbury

As the Member of Parliament for Glengarry–Prescott–Russell for
almost two years, Pierre was pleased with the government’s
achievements with respect to support for linguistic duality.
Appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Official Languages in October,
Pierre has been actively involved in this file
for some time. At his request, he has been an
