On Friday, November 9, the MP for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, Pierre Lemieux, held his fourth passport clinic within the riding, this time in Embrun. The response to the Passport Clinics across the riding has been overwhelming. At each of his clinics, Mr. Lemieux ensured that he had the maximum resources possible in order to ensure fast and efficient service in each of his clinics. US border is being reopened to Canadian cattle
Reacting to the announcement that the US border is being reopened to Canadian cattle born after March 1, 1999, Pierre Lemieux, MP for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, said that he was delighted. “All farmers should be happy about this. The work that our government has done to make the animal food chain safer is bringing encouraging results, and the reopening of the American border is a good example,” he commented.

The ecoENERGY Initiatives fund significant environmental initiatives in the areas of technology, renewable power, and energy efficiency. Pierre received new responsibilities over the last week, by being promoted to the key position of Chairman of the new Special Committee on the Canadian Mission in Afghanistan. Pierre takes on this new position, while at the same time continuing in his roles as Parliamentary Secretary for Official Languages and Deputy Whip for the Government. Pierre Completes Visit of all GPR Municipal Councils
Pierre recently met with all nine municipal councils, as well as with the United Counties of Prescott-Russell, as part of a three-month tour. Throughout his meetings with the various municipalities, Pierre emphasized the importance of the federal Building Canada program, the Gas Tax Fund for municipalities, as well as the various tax cuts that were introduced by the Conservative government. Since taking office, the Conservative government has delivered over $200 billion in tax cuts to individuals and businesses.

Conservative budget responds to the needs of GPR

Conservatives make the gas tax fund for municipalities permanent to help with their infrastructure needs
Pierre Lemieux, Member of Parliament for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, has worked hard to ensure that the 2008 Federal Budget included making the Gas Tax Fund a permanent measure. This Fund, which is a key way in which the federal government transfers money directly to municipalities for their infrastructure needs, will be worth $2 billion in 2009-2010.

PIERRE DELIVERS FUNDING FOR CLEAN WATER IN CLARENCE-ROCKLAND
Pierre Lemieux, Member of Parliament for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, on behalf of the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the Conservative government will consider the rehabilitation and replacement of watermains in the City of Clarence-Rockland, Ontario as a priority for up to $606,826 in federal infrastructure funding.

Renewed $10 Million Funding for the Eastern Ontario Development Program

MP Pierre Lemieux was in Hawkesbury last Thursday to make an announcement on behalf of Minister Clement to the Prescott-Russell Community Development Corporation.  The Conservative government has renewed funding of $10 Million for Eastern Ontario ridings to promote economic development in 2008.

Government of Canada supports Wastewater upgrades in Hawkesbury

Pierre is an active member of the Standing Committee on Official Languages

As the Member of Parliament for Glengarry–Prescott–Russell for almost two years, Pierre was pleased with the government’s achievements with respect to support for linguistic duality. Appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Official Languages in October, Pierre has been actively involved in this file for some time. At his request, he has been an active member of the Standing Committee on Official Languages since he was elected.
